Things to See and Do

The Tuscarawas Valley's Swiss Heritage is celebrated in autumn during the annual Swiss Festival in nearby Sugarcreek. The small country hamlet is transformed into a European village, with Swiss costumed residents, live music,and plenty of locally-made Swiss cheese. Visitors enjoy the Swiss cuisine and apple fritters, while dancing in the streets until well after dark. The sound of yodeling fills the air, just as it once did in Switzerland,and the stein tossing event is the most popular of the evening. All watch intently as contestants see who can throw a 138 pound stone the farthest distance. (Olympian Jud Logan holds the record at 14 feet, 4 inches!)

Apple farms, weekend wine tasting, hayrides and pumpkin patches are favorite destinations this time of year, when the red and gold hills remind us what a beautiful world we live in .
